Customer Review: An Outstanding Accessory With Only Minor Limitations
I purchased this Opteka 2.2x telephoto lens for $30 plus $8 freight from 47th Street Photo, for use with my Canon Powershot A570IS. The Opteka is very nicely finished. It comes with two lens caps, a nice bag, and (in this case, it may vary by camera model) a 52mm extension tube. It’s performance is outstanding. Shooting with the Telephoto from 35mm (it vigenets at this focal length only)to 140 x 2.2 it was without distortions and has great depth of field. Using the additional 4x digital zoom I it was very sharp through 3x. 4x was slightly soft which may have been more the product of the wide area of auto focus. At the higher magnifications it does need a monopod, tripod or a stout tree. The lens will block part of the optical viewfinder, but the top vertical line, two side lines are still visable and you can use the LCD Monitor for a full view. Surprisingly it does not “stack” like my old 200mm did.

This Opteka lens is four or five times better than my old Vivitar 2x Telextender. Having dragged two Nikkor FTN bodies and six prime lens over many western National Parks this is an great lens, it’s an outstanding value.

As a additional bonus, the extension tube if left on, does not vignette at 35mm and takes my Nikon 52mm filters and poloriod filter. How often do you need more than 140mm x2 digital or x3 digital? When you do, this Opteka 2.2 is an excellent inexpensive way to go.

Customer Review: Don’t waste your money unless you want a black vignette.
It’s hard to complain too much about this product considering the price. When you use the wide angle lense you get a black vignette around the edges of your image. There is also a considerable amount of distortion. Straight lines will have a slight curve. I would recommend spending the extra money to purchase the Canon wide angle lense, which works much better. The macro lense feature of this lense does work, but isn’t great.
Customer Review: Opteka Wide-Angle Lens
I purchased this lens for my Canon PowerShot G9, and while it is generally functional, it has a limitation I was not aware of before purchase. At wide angles, the corners of the image are cropped. It’s thus impossible to achieve the 0.45x conversion with a full-frame–zoomed to eliminate the corners, the converter is perhaps closer to 0.7x.

In terms of build quality, the converter is fine–minimal chromatic aberration or blurring at the corners. And for $30, I can’t complain much. The converter was shipped with the 58 mm lens adapter, which itself often costs $25 or more.

All in all, I am happy with the converter given the price, but it is not a replacement for the (far more expensive) Canon adapter.

I liked this camera a lot, bought it for $299 when new, a year ago. I never dropped it. But someone, a piece of plastic broke on the door to the compact flash department. Took it back to the camera store, and they said it would cost $200 to repair it! What a waste of money! Now I’ll buy used on Amazon or ebay next time for far less…

The camera case is great for holding the camera. And the accessories that came with are great. Unfortunately, the space for carrying any accessories with the case appears unsafe or too small. No room in the case for anything but the camera, and the two outside pockets are shallow and held only with velcroe. But for what you get and the price, it’s an excellent value.

I bought the SD550 before my trip to Paris in 2006 and was most pleased with its lightness, ease of use and excellent photo quality! Early on I dropped it onto a concrete sidewalk whilst I was strolling along, but it only received scratches and worked fine thereafter (however, I learned it is best to use the wrist strap to prevent “droppage”. Whew.) I have now owned it two years and just lately have more difficulty with fuzzy photos and notice it is not as great in lesser lighting situations. I do agree this camera does not work well for taking distance photos that require light (such a school concert), but over all I have enjoyed it. Next time I would look for one with image stabilizer.

I bought my canon a430 from amazon over a year and am very impressed with the quality, crispness, speed between pics, especially in kids and pet setting (as some users seem to be unaware of) Also Great mic and video. I accidently left it in the rain and soaked it… four days later it was as great as ever…If lost I would replace it with the exact same item. Battery life is also impressive on this camera.

I bought this a year ago refurbished for $100. It’s now been all over the world, taken thousands of luscious images, and is light to carry, doesn’t eat batteries, and has a boatload of features if you take time to work through the manual. They’ve tried, but the menus onscreen are not completely intuitive so a few hours with the manual are vital. When this guy dies, I’ll be buying exactly the same model.

I had a moment of angst while attaching this strap: Would I look pretentious carrying a point and shoot camera around on a thick leather strap that looks like it was made for a professional grade DSLR? Well, this concern quickly evaporated when I actually started carrying the camera. The strap, apart from being beautifully made, is considerably more comfortable than the one that came with my S3 IS. Tucking such a big strap into a reasonably-sized camera bag can be a bit vexing, but if you like to keep your camera out and ready for action, this strap is definitely the way to go.
